We will have our final SAAC meeting @ 4pm on Monday, May 14th. If you want to come by and check out our accountability committee, we encourage you to attend.
Our Namaqua carnival is coming this Friday evening! As you may have already read in the letter that went home a few weeks ago, we will be charging a small entry fee for our carnival. The parent committee and I both have felt strongly about wanting to keep this as a free event; however, with shrinking budgets and less staff, we had to make a change this year. We usually lose about $2000 on the carnival. This year, we are hoping to break even. If you have a large family, remember that the maximum for any family is $10. If you need help in covering the cost of the carnival, please let me know and I will help you.
April 26 – Community Forum with Principal Candidates – 6:00 pm
The process for selecting a new principal for Namaqua Elementary includes a public forum with the finalists on Thursday, April 26th at 6:00 pm at Namaqua. Everyone is welcome to attend. Prior to this meeting, interviews will be held. The interview team consists of teachers, classified staff, parents, and other district personnel. Finalists for principal will be selected to participate in the community forum. The superintendent will make the final selection after interviews with leaders at the district level.
We are so fortunate to have amazing parent and community volunteers at Namaqua. We would love for you to join us on April 24th at 7:45am for breakfast. We want you to know how much we appreciate all that you do for the students and staff and Namaqua
Thompson School District appreciates its volunteers! Volunteers are a necessary and important resource in our schools. Balancing this valuable resource with the safety of our students is of utmost concern. With more than 4,000 volunteers in the district, managing the number of parent and community volunteers is also a challenge.
Our new online volunteer registration and management program will help us keep track of our growing number of volunteers and allow us to keep them informed about upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Beginning February 27, current volunteers will log on to the district website — www.ThompsonSchools.org — click on the purple volunteer button on the home page and register online. The registration process takes less than five minutes. The district will conduct criminal background checks on all registered volunteers. Principals will be notified if a volunteer is not approved.
New parent volunteers should complete a school volunteer registration form first and then go online to register. Community and other non-parent volunteers need to complete a community volunteer application located on the district website. When they are matched with a volunteer position, they will be instructed to register online.
It is important that all school volunteers register online. Board policy states that “…a volunteer is an individual, except a student enrolled in a district school, who provides an act or service without compensation… . This requirement applies to all volunteer service, whether it is only for a single occasion or will occur on a sporadic or regular basis, and regardless of the program, event or activity involved.”
Have you registered online?
Just a reminder to please hang up your cell phone before entering Namaqua Avenue. We want to ensure that all of the students, parents, and staff are safe as we are dropping off and picking up. Thanks!
